IAF Strategic Objective
At the heart of IAF’s work is the conviction that interaction between active citizens and a responsive, accountable government are fundamental to achieve the vision of a peaceful and prosperous Kenya where everyone knows and enjoys their rights. IAF believes that it is the Kenyans and national organizations that need to be in the drivers’ seat to shape such a future vision. It is local ownership and participation that will make change effective and sustainable. To achieve this, citizens will need to effectively become agents of change, whether they are represented by Civil Society Organisations or not. Women and youth are critical actors to achieve sustainable change.
More than 4 decades of humanitarian and development assistance in the country raises the question about what change needs to be made to ensure that humanitarian interventions along with development cooperation contribute to change that will break the vicious cycle of protracted crises. This means that IAF will make sure that all projects and programming do not only contribute to survival of people, but also contribute to effectively addressing these root causes and underlying factors. IAF Kenya has identified three closely interconnected key root causes that halt or hamper progress towards peace and prosperity.
- High levels of poverty
- Lack of access to basic human rights, especially for women and young people, and
- Recurring natural disaster and man-made conflicts.
To address these root causes, IAF always analyses the key stakeholders and their influence to block or enable a change.
